Biography
Mikelangelo is the stage persona of Australian singer, songwriter, and performer Michael Simic, one of the country’s true musical mavericks.
Drawing from an eclectic mix of genres, including transgressive folk, outlaw country, 50s blues and doowop, spaghetti western soundtracks, instrumental surf music, baroque pop, and the darker realms of rock’n’roll, Mikelangelo’s songs are known for their vivid imagery, stirring rhythms, and soaring melodies.
Whether performing intimate solo sets or commanding large festival stages, his live shows are a dynamic blend of wild energy, emotional depth, and humour. Mikelangelo’s unmistakable baritone voice and charismatic stage presence have made him a beloved figure in Australian and global music and performing arts.
He performs both as a solo artist and with his local band Mikelangelo and the Long Lost Friends, as well as his long-term project, Mikelangelo and the Black Sea Gentlemen.
